Everyone Stop Touching The Mommy!

by Nicole Mangina on April 28, 2009

Do you ever want to crawl into a closet so that you can get some relief from all of the things coming at you?  I remember back when I was still nursing Ryan and after a day of running around taking care of clients with their real estate transactions and then coming home to get groped by Ryan, have Alex smack me on the butt to get my attention (Gary taught him that one) while repeating ‘Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom’ and Gary trying to well… you know and finally one day I had enough and yelled out ‘Everyone stop touching the Mommy!”  It caught them all by surprise and then we all started to laugh.

The point is, though, that we all need some time to retreat and just be alone, especially when you have people and responsibilities coming at you from every direction all day long.   These days I get up at 5am on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work out at the gym.  I love working out, but one of my favorite things about going to the gym is sitting in the sauna.  It feels a bit silly to be getting in the sauna at 6:30 in the morning, but I just love it.  I get really nice and warm which feels extra good given that Spring has not exactly sprung here yet, and no one else is ever in there at that time of day so it is totally quiet.  It is almost like my meditation spot.  I so look forward to those 2 mornings a week of being in there all by myself to relax.  I must admit that there are times when I have gone to the gym too tired to work out and still went just so that I could get my quiet time in the sauna.  And when I get home and am relaxed and more than ready for the mommy snuggle fest with the boys.  One of the highlights of my day!

What do you do to check out when you need a break from people?
